A monsoon move is safe when three things change from a normal move: every box gets a waterproof layer, loading happens under cover, and the schedule carries buffer time for rain and traffic. Movers in coastal and ghat cities run this playbook all season.
How should packing change in the rainy season?
Add a plastic wrap layer over standard packing: furniture and mattresses in shrink wrap or plastic sheeting, electronics double-sealed in polythene inside their boxes with silica gel pouches, and books and documents in plastic before boxing. What changes on moving day?
Loading should happen in a covered bay or under tarpaulin sheeting, with door-to-truck distance minimized — this is where society basement access in cities like Mumbai earns its value. Crews lay anti-slip runners indoors, and the truck itself must be verified waterproof: ask to see the cargo area before loading, not after.
Do intercity routes need extra planning?
Yes — ghat sections and low-lying stretches slow down or close in heavy rain, especially on Konkan and Western Ghats routes around Pune and Mumbai. Build 1–2 buffer days into intercity delivery windows and agree the buffer in writing, as part of the delivery terms from our 10 questions checklist.
What should I check at delivery?
Open boxes marked fragile or electronic while the crew is present, and check for damp before signing the delivery receipt. Any moisture damage goes on the receipt immediately — that notation plus your LR and photos is what an insurance claim rests on.
If your dates are flexible, October to February is easier — but when the monsoon move is unavoidable, book a crew that does it every week.
