10 Moving Day Mistakes to Avoid (and What to Do Instead)

Most moving-day problems trace back to ten avoidable mistakes — and every one of them has a thirty-second prevention. Here they are, with the fix built in.

The 10 mistakes

  1. Not counting boxes at loading. Count with the supervisor and write the number on the LR. Count again at delivery before signing.
  2. Valuables in the truck. Jewellery, cash, documents, laptops, and medicines travel with you — no exceptions, as every guide from our checklist onward repeats.
  3. Signing a blank or incomplete delivery receipt. Note damage or missing items on the receipt at delivery — it's the foundation of any insurance claim.
  4. No essentials bag. Two days of clothes, chargers, toiletries, basic utensils, and kids' or pets' needs — packed last, unloaded first.
  5. Fridge defrosted too late. 24 hours before loading, minimum. A dripping fridge soaks its own box and its neighbours.
  6. Cash-only payment with no receipt. Pay digitally against the written quote; it's your payment trail.
  7. Letting the crew guess what's fragile. Walk the supervisor through the house before packing starts; point out every fragile and high-value item — better yet, have them professionally packed.
  8. No society/lift booking at either end. Confirm both buildings' arrangements the day before — the Mumbai and Pune sections of our city guides show why this can stall an entire move.
  9. Keys, meters, and handover forgotten. Photograph meter readings, hand over keys formally, and do a final empty-house walkthrough — check lofts and balconies.
  10. Phone battery at 10%. You'll coordinate everything by phone. Charge it, and save the crew supervisor's number the night before.

What does a well-run moving day feel like?

Boring — in the best way. The crew arrives on time, the sequence follows the plan, and your job reduces to walkthroughs and sign-offs. That's the standard our teams run in Pune, Mumbai, and Hyderabad every day. Book yours — and keep this list on your phone for the day.
